When school started Monday, August 19th our BEST Robotics team had already had one meeting and a pancake breakfast under our belts. Next we started recruiting new members for this year's War Eagle BEST Competition. Several members of our team put up flyers in the hallways around school and Mr. Steve Ballard, our adviser, was able to have announcements made over the intercom, about our BEST meetings.
Once the robot was basically finished the team was able to appear on our school's morning news program, TecTV, to show off the robot and encourage students to attend the War Eagle BEST Competition at Lee-Scott Academy, in Auburn, Saturday, October 19, 2013.
After finishing the last details of designing and building the company's robot, our exhibit booth, notebook, and t-shirt, our members began promoting the BEST concept to several of our local elementary and middle schools in the River Region. So we could demonstrate how our robot operated and how it was going to accomplish its tasks in a three minute match, our team built a mini version of the three stages of this years game, along with a VEX robot to manipulate the field.
Our first stop was Bear Exploration Center for their fall festival and then it was off to Blount Elementary School, where we spent some time demonstrating the robot to students as well as parents and also what B.E.S.T. is all about. We also took the opportunity to allow some of the kids to do a little test drive of the robot, under our supervision of course!
